Professional Stage Presence Class Descriptions
Participate in fun exercises, in a light and friendly atmosphere. These exercises are done and mastered throughout the eight weeks to free students up emotionally and help them become effective performers that emotionally impact their audiences through their songs.
Students learn the difference between extroverting their attention and having their attention introverted and glued upon themselves while they perform. When performers are nervous they tend to “look in”. Simple exercises will help students fully realize where their attention is placed and then help them gain the skill to take full command of their attention, under the lights and stress of performing.
Once students learn to take command of their attention, the class will help them communicate with intention. Often young and even adult performers have tremendous singing voices but their message doesn’t quite “make it to the audience” effectively and with enough strength. Students will become aware of where their communication is aimed at and to whom. There is a big difference between singing in a small room to a small audience and performing in something as large as a stadium. Students will lear to naturally scale their communications for any size audience, so they can deliver their message powerfully and create a great emotional impact upon their audiences, big or small.
Finally, students will learn what makes up a great stage presence and apply it to the type of music they sing. They will develop their own image as singers and work on what they want the audience to grasp about that image. Fun acting exercises, which combine physical movement with their imaginations (Michael Chekov exercises), will help them learn to use their bodies and their imaginations when expressing themselves, be more extrovert, shake off any shyness or nerves, and gracefully use their bodies to express themselves when performing on stage.
At the end of Level 1 each student will have a written quiz on all the basic principles we’ve learned. We will also invite their parents to come and see them perform and see how much they’ve progressed in their delivery and stage presence.
The Level 2 class reviews, strengthens and builds upon all the things students have learned in Level 1.
New and specific exercises are introduced to help students become even more free to express themselves as singers.
Student will analyze their favorite songs. They will learn how to break them down in terms of the story to tell, from their hearts, when performing them. Finally, they will learn the basics of how to “sing” that story so that it makes a great emotional impact on their audience.
Students will work on their on-stage image and what clear and bold choices need to be made to enhance it.
Students will learn how to analyze famous singer’s performances and how to be able to immediately identify the image they create. They will also study some specific songs and discuss how the artist is effectively telling the story.
At the end of the class, students will have re-enforced their basic communication skills as singers. They will have a very clear idea about the image they want to portray as singers. And they will have the confidence to communicate, on stage, at a new professional level and be able to tell a story through their songs that will strongly impact an audience.

For twenty-years Pamela Peak has been an acting coach, teacher and director to both children and adults with tremendous results. After taking her classes, children who dread getting up on stage end up enjoying themselves as performers and some have worked as actors in Los Angeles. Children who are already comfortable on stage become even more dynamic.
